AI Ikigai ("the app", "we") is a self-discovery journaling app that helps you explore your ikigai — your reason for being — through guided questions and AI-generated insights. This page explains what data the app collects, why, and how you can control it.
When you use the "Connect the Dots" insight feature, the text of your journal answers is sent to OpenAI to generate your personalised ikigai insight. OpenAI processes this text to return the generated response and, per their policy, does not use API data to train their models. We recommend not including highly sensitive information (e.g. financial account numbers, government ID numbers) in your answers.
If you tap the microphone button to dictate an answer, AI Ikigai asks for microphone permission and uses your device's built-in speech recognition to turn your speech into text. AI Ikigai does not record, store or upload your audio; it only receives the resulting text, which is treated like any other answer you type. Depending on your device settings, your phone's speech service (for example Google's) may process the audio to produce that text, under that provider's own privacy policy. Voice typing is optional and you can revoke the microphone permission at any time in your device settings.
Your account data, journal answers and insights are stored using Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Firebase Authentication), operated by Google under their own privacy and security terms. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the service providers necessary to run the app:
AI Ikigai is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
